ARE YOU READY FOR ALASKA?  YOUR BOAT, YOUR SKILL, AND YOUR EXPECTATIONS

Are you intrigued by the idea of taking your boat to Alaska but not really sure how to prepare for such a voyage?  What do you need to do to make sure your boat is ready?  What skills do you need to safely skipper such a trip?  What should you anticipate and prepare for?  Mike Huston, a partner in the San Juan Sailing and Yachting organization in Bellingham, is veteran sailor, author of boating articles, and an instructor in the San Juan Sailing School.  Mike and his wife have made several boating trips to Alaska.  He will share with us how best to prepare for the voyage of a lifetime to Alaska.

SALVAGING SHIPWRECKS

Navy salvage forces go to work when the worst happens: a ship sinks, a collision occurs, a weapon is lost, a space shuttle explodes. This presentation tells the stories of the Navy’s most notable salvage operations, including raising sunken submarines USS F-4 and USS S-51, salvaging ships after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and recovering the wreckage of Space Shuttle Challenger.

As of 1/13/22, there are 15 slips available.  Please contact the Port Orchard Marina at (360) 876-5535 to reserve a slip.

Tacoma Yacht Club Cruise to Liberty Bay

FINDING PAX: ONE WOMAN'S JOURNEY FOR THE LOVE OF HER WOODEN BOAT

Kaci Cronkhite is a sef-diagnosed woman of the wind.  Kaci sailed around the world from 1995-2001.  She led the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival for a decade.  Passionate about double-enders since her first sail, she is steward/owner/captain of the Danish spidsgatter, PAX, which is moored in Port Townsend.  Kaci's passion for sailing led her to write books about her adventures, including 'Finding PAX,' a story about her 7-year odyssey to solve the mystery of PAX's 80-year history, including it's ownership by 10 families in Denmark, Canada, and the United States.  One book reviewer said "PAX's sweet mystery will enthrall even non-wooden boat nuts like me, and non-sailors, too.  It's that good".

Women's InterClub luncheon hosted by Olympia Yacht Club.  Program speaker, Dorothy Wilhelm, who is an author, columnist, and humorist.  She'll be telling stories about the South Sound and her books will be available for purchase.  We'll meet at PYC clubhouse at 9:30 to carpool.

We'll cover everything from opening and closing basics to brainstorming about some new ideas to improve bar customer flow.  We hope to get as many of the 70+ MAST certified bartenders to join us. Even if you know the ropes, come on out and teach some of your tips and tricks to our newer bartending crew.

First Steak Fry of the Season!!  This PYC tradition includes a baked potato with all the fixings, salad, and a dessert.  You bring your own meat/fish/chicken/etc to grill at the club.  Cost is $6 per person and you pay at the door.  No pre-registration required and the bar is open. 🥩🥔🥗🥤🍻

The APRIL BOAT PROGRAM is all about PYC!  What's going on with the Marina Rebuild this summer?  How will it affect my summer boating season?  What do I need to know about safety protocol on our dock?  How do I use the pump out station?  Answers to all of these questions and more!!!!!   And...the bar will be open 6:30-7 ⚓️

While we celebrate multiple Commodores this year, April is the time we annually honor our Commodores at PYC.  I am happy to see that Commodore Earl and Lena’s celebration on April 30^th will officially mark “back to normal” for PYC’s Commodore Ball Calendar.  

Please be sure to view the flyers and mark your calendar for April 30 to join us in honoring Team Hunt and the fine job they have done in their leadership roles at PYC and as representatives of PYC among the Grand 14.    Commodore Earl’s  theme this year has been about family, friends and connections at PYC.  Earl’s connections go back decades through his parents' membership and for almost 25 years with Lena as a couple.  I hope you will join us for a lovely evening celebrating a journey that has been so clearly  “Written in the Stars”!
